Prof. Binyamin Katzoff’s research focuses on the halakhic literature of the Sages and medieval rabbinic literature, the history of Jewish law and prayer, and patterns of learning and knowledge transmission within rabbinic culture.

A major focus of his recent research is the Tosefta, including its textual traditions, its relationship to the Mishnah and the Talmuds, and its redaction and transmission. Together with Professor Adiel Schremer, he has received two Israel Science Foundation (ISF) grants: one to study the role of Genizah and binding fragments in the textual transmission of the Tosefta, and another to prepare a critical edition of Tosefta Neziqin (Part II), based on the Vienna manuscript and including textual variants, parallels, and a concise commentary.

Another major area of his research is the application of Digital Humanities methods to rabbinic literature. His work uses computational analysis of citations and references to map networks of scholars and intellectual communities and to explore intellectual affinities and patterns of knowledge transmission. Together with Prof. Maayan Geffen-Tamir, Prof. Jonathan Schler and Prof. Michael Satlow, he has received research grants from the Israeli Ministry of Science and the BSF–NEH for this work.
